Our Story

What our Ancestors Began, We Continue to Share

We give farmers the attention and care they deserve by creating an enterprise that solely depends on their hard work.

In the terraced valleys of Uttarakhand, farming is both a culture and a survival. For centuries, families here have sown Barahnaja, which is an ancient practice of growing twelve grains together. This timeless system of agriculture has been passed down from generation to generation. With our heart lying in the deepest region of the Himalayas, from Garhwal to Bagirathi, our farmers help pack fresh produce of Ragi, Rajma, Dal, Soybean, and much more.

The Power Queens that Shape Yakulaas

Every year, countless families leave their homes in the hills to chase income opportunities in crowded metropolises. The result? Silent villages, abandoned houses, and fading ways of life. This migration not only splits families but also risks the survival of traditional farming systems of Barahnaja. Without people to cultivate, knowledge passed down for centuries risks being lost.

However, just like in every generation, it is the women who step forward to save the doom and keep adding life to the fields. In Garhwal, women continue to till the land and most of the time without financial recognition or support. In fact, even many merchants buy grains from them at unfair prices.

At Yakulaas, we see women not as farmers but as leaders of change, giving them the financial freedom and respect they deserve. The most notable part is that our fields are nurtured by women between the ages of 30 and 60 years, who know how to balance households, tend to the soil, and sustain traditions with quiet strength.

Our true businesswomen of the soil. If it weren’t for them, villages would have faded in the background, the fields waiting forever.

We aim to offer them both employment and empowerment. The grains they grow become real organic food for your table and a source of independent livelihood for them.

How We Work Differently

Yakulaas Co. exists to reshape and ideate the narrative of Barahnaja cultivation. We have a simple yet impactful model.

Buying at fair value:

We purchase directly from the farmers at guaranteed, fair prices to ensure they don’t have to rely on middlemen or suffer market uncertainties.

Creating rural employment:

By offering easy and steady employment to the villagers, we help reduce migration pressures and give women financial independence.

Building markets:

Once harvested, these grains are processed, packaged, and made available to customers across India and abroad. We bring sustainable, organic produce from the Himalaya to your healthy food diet.

Engaging women farmers:

We partner with women, mostly mid-aged, providing them with better business opportunities to invest in their cultivated organic grains.
